How does cupping therapy work?

Cupping creates a decompression force in the tissues directly beneath the cup (with a compression force created around the rim of the cup). This lifting of the tissues can be another stimulus for the tissues and nervous system. For some people, this is a relaxing way to treat tight or painful areas and static trigger points. It is the opposite of many other forms of manual “gliding” therapy that typically create a compressive force such as massage, the use of IASTM tools or floss bands.
