Revisiting Acupuncture – François Beyens | Volume I
Revisiting Acupuncture by François Beyens is an in-depth exploration of acupuncture theory, clinical practice and medical acupuncture, written from the perspective of a medical doctor and experienced acupuncturist.
The first volume in a planned series, Revisiting Acupuncture brings together decades of clinical experience, teaching, research and reflection. Rather than simply presenting established acupuncture theory, Beyens examines the principles behind the practice, questioning how traditional concepts can be understood, evaluated and applied within contemporary healthcare.
The result is a thought-provoking acupuncture reference book for practitioners and students, as well as readers interested in the development of acupuncture from its Chinese origins to modern clinical practice.
Exploring Acupuncture Theory & Clinical Practice
Beyens approaches acupuncture as both a physician and a practitioner. Throughout the book, he considers the relationship between traditional acupuncture theory, clinical experience and modern scientific understanding.
The author explores which aspects of traditional theory remain useful in practice, which may require reinterpretation and how acupuncture can continue to evolve within different medical and cultural environments.
Rather than accepting every traditional concept without question, the book encourages readers to examine acupuncture through clinical observation, critical thinking, current knowledge and practical experience.
From Traditional Chinese Acupuncture to Modern Practice
Revisiting Acupuncture also considers acupuncture's historical relationship with Chinese medicine and Chinese medical thought.
As acupuncture has spread internationally, its practice has developed differently across countries, cultures and professional groups. Beyens examines this evolution while considering how contemporary scientific methodology may contribute to our understanding of acupuncture and its mechanisms.
Alongside the clinical and theoretical discussion are anecdotes, historical observations, cultural insights and personal reflections, giving the book a more human perspective on the development and practice of acupuncture.
